Last week’s 5th International Microinsurance Conference in Dakar, Senegal
gathered hundreds of microinsurance experts and workers who met to discuss
trends and developments in cost-effective insurance for the poor. Online
public discussions about the event and about findings reported at the event
– including a new study from the International Labour Organization’s (ILO)

.htm> Microinsurance Innovation Facility on Microinsurance in Africa – were
strongly positive. The ILO study found that 14.7 million people living under
$2 a day are covered by microinsurance in 32 African countries.

Winners of the Global Accelerator Award are organizations or people who have
helped propel into action an idea that holds the promise of dramatically
improving patient care and human health throughout in the world. The
Accelerator Award is based on an Innovation Cell methodology that analyzes
which organizations or people in healthcare have put an idea or strategy
into action that has generated significant positive “buzz” or “chatter” on
the World Wide Web – notably, on patient-led blogs and social networking
sites.

The Global Accelerator Award™ is powered by the Health Strategy Innovation
Cell based at Massey College at the University of Toronto. The Innovation
Cell specializes in making sense of <http://myhealthinnovation.com/> online
