Subject: summer internship for student in Strasbourg

"My name is Pauline Boureau and I am currently studying Finance and International Relations at the Institute of Political Sciences in Strasbourg, France. Last year, I spend two semesters at Georgetown University, in Washington, DC, USA where I first heard about microfinance. There, I took a class about the actions of the World Bank, with which I got the opportunity to visit the institution and to relate the subject of the class with the real-world practices. I also studied a few successful and less-successful cases in South Asia, South America and Africa but I got really introduced with the mechanisms of microfinance this year while taking a more economic course about it at the IEP.

This summer, I would like to intern in an MFI or NGO that uses the tools of microfinance since I am planning on studying it more deeply next year (with a Master in International and Economic Development) and -why not- work into the field after I graduate. I am very interested in working as a project manager for an international organization, job in which I could combine my skills in Finance and my international-oriented studies background.

Unfortunately, I have never been to Africa but I would like to seize the opportunity of spending part of my summer (3-4 months: June-September) there as a first insight. I speak English and French fluently, but can also use Spanish and Italian. I have some notions in Arabic and Chinese as well.

During this internship, I would like to learn more about the design and the implementation of microfinance tools (microinsurance, microcredit, savings...) in the developing countries and I am eager to try out very different departments into the organization -where I can help. I wish to make the most of my communication skills which I developed last year while interning in the US Congress and meeting with different US administrators.

Very motivated, I consider this summer internship as a fantastic opportunity for the student that I am, to perfect my career choices, to learn and develop essential skills through a real world experience alongside professionals."
