Analyzing risk management strategies and microinsurance demand in Africa

 

This survey report on the demand for microinsurance in rural Ghana is based on a household survey which was undertaken in February 2008 in the Central Region. It serves as a pilot study in the context of a research project on risk management strategies and the demand for microinsurance of low-income households in Africa conducted by the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA).

 

This report presents major descriptive results of the analysis of the survey data with regard to the socio-economic profile of the target market, general knowledge of insurance, the characteristics, and the satisfaction of the microinsurance policyholders, business competition and the potential demand in the area of observation.

 

Finally the report draws some conclusions in respect of the future development and further distribution of microinsurance in the survey area.
